This wonderful all color vintage video begins with five minutes of run-by action featuring many of the steam and diesel locomotives found in the collected film on this Classic Railroad Series VHS/NTSC format video. First is "Main Line USA", produced in 1946 by the AAR , and which features many colorful shots of 1940's steam, electric's and first generation deisel's..also line construction, depots and shops. Some of the railroad companies and locomotives shown are: Milwaukee Road's Hiawatha (long sequence), Erie, C&NW, Chesapeake & Ohio, Missouri Pacific, Rock Island's Rocket, New York Central, Santa Fe, Burlington, Pennsylvania Railroad, and many others. This is truly a great depiction of railroading in the 1940's.
The next featured segment is "Chesapeake & Ohio's Roadrailer. In 1950's, the Chesapeake and Ohio started using railroad cars with both road ties and flange wheels which they called the Road Railer. It was a boxcar that became a semi-trailer in a matter if minutes. This film includes some great shots of depots and yards in Grand Rapids an Detroit Michigan, plus some inevitable images of those great 1950 cars with giant tail fins!
