"Great Northern started out in 1857 as the Minnesota & Pacific. Eventually the line extended through the rich farmlands of North Dakota, through Glacier park to the evergreen shores of the Pacific Northwest. The name Great Northern was taken in 1890 as appropriate for rails that crossed the great territory and in 1912 the sure-footed mountain goat was adopted as its symbol. Its original passenger flagship was the "Oriental Limited" and its "Empire Builder" still operates as an Amtrak train!"
We are pleased to offer you this beautiful authentic reproduction of a Great Northern Railway vintage logo advertising sign
This 10" diameter enameled sign is created using the same process popularized in the early 1900's. The colors are not applied as paint, instead they are finely ground glass crystals which, when kiln fired at 1350 degrees F, fuse to a heavy steel plate. Each color is applied and fired separately, creating a durable, lustrous and rust resistant product. The resulting high quality and excellent craftsmanship assures this item will also make the perfect Christmas or Hanukkah gift for that special Train or Railroad enthusiasts as well as Railroadiana memorabilia collectors!
