As the demand for air travel increased early in the 1960’s, a series of events combined to give birth to the world’s largest passenger airliner, an aircraft two and a half times the size of the Boeing 707. The 747 actually started life as a strategic military airlifter; eventually, Boeing was able to create a civil transport using the immensely powerful high-bypass turbofan engines, a plane which would eventually develop into the Boeing 747.
An icon of the late 20th century, the 747 has done more than any other aircraft to bring travel to the world, and thus help create a global economy and society. The awesome sight of a 747 taking off still draws attention nearly thirty years later, and is likely to do so well into the next century.
This attractive, hard cover book features 116 full-page photos of 747’s from around the world and captures most of the color schemes applied to the 747 over the past three decades. 120 pages, 10 1/2" by 8".
